Day 1 - Anuradhapura

Arrive and transfer to the ancient city of Anuradhapura. As the first capital of the island, Anuradhapura is renowned for its well-preserved ruins and grand stupas dating back to the 3rd century BC. Explore the impressive brick and granite structures, including the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi tree, a revered symbol of Buddhism. The city’s complex network of reservoirs and ancient monasteries showcases its rich cultural heritage and architectural brilliance.

Visit Anuradhapura enroute to Jaffna. Anuradhapura is the 1st historical capital of Sri Lanka and hidden away in dense jungle for many years is now accessible to see ruins of buildings and large stupas (pagodas) built with brick and granite, dating back to 3rd century

Experience a comprehensive city tour of Jaffna. Begin with a visit to the renowned Nallur Hindu Temple, known for its intricate architecture and lively festivals. Explore the remnants of the 17th-century Dutch Fort, a historical landmark offering insights into Jaffna’s colonial past. Visit the Naga Vihara Temple, located in an island close to Jaffna. The journey is done half through land and the rest by boat. In the afternoon you can visit the Kanthoradai Temple with pre-historic tombs, Keerimalee Temple and pond. Also visit Dambakolapatuna, the beach where the Sacred Bo Tree in India under which The Buddha attained enlightenment, currently the sacred Bo Tree in Anuradhapura was brought to Sri Lanka by ship from India

Transfer to Trincomalee, one of the most famous beach destinations on the island’s East coast. En-route visit some of the key war sites from the 30-year-old civil war in the north and east of the country

Visit the ancient city of Polonnaruwa (UNESCO World Heritage site). Do a jeep safari at the Minneriya National Park in the afternoon to see large herds of wild elephants and many other wild animals

Transfer to Kandy (UNESCO World Heritage City). On-rout visit a Spice Garden in Matale, a district famous for cultivation of spices in Sri Lanka such as pepper, cloves, nutmeg, cardamom etc. Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth of The Buddha in the evening
